Braemar's University Preparation Program
Our
University Preparation Program, established in 1995,
is inspired by a rich, two-fold understanding of success:
we help qualify students for their chosen post-secondary
program, and we prepare them to do
well.
Certification
Students
take courses toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma
(OSSD). In other words, when they graduate, they will
have the same diploma as any Canadian student who attended
a public high school. This is how we qualify
them for post-secondary entrance. The OSSD has worldwide
recognition.
Preparation
Getting
into a post-secondary institution, however, is only
the first challenge; students should also do well. For
this they need the appropriate academic preparation.
During their time with us students develop the study
skills and the intellectual independence essential for
success in a Western post-secondary institution.
How
do I know what courses I need?
Our
experienced guidance officers will create a study-plan
to ensure you have fulfilled all the entrance requirements
for the program of your choice.
Will
Braemar help me apply?
Of
course. Our Guidance office will make all efforts to
assist students to apply for post-secondary programs,
whether in Canada, or anywhere else in the world. Our
college has detailed information about the various programs
and entrance requirements of all Canadian universities.
Throughout the year representatives from many post-secondary
institutions visit our college and give exclusive presentations
to Braemar students.
Fast Track Semester System
Our unique semester system provides students with advantages they will find nowhere else - advantages that can translate into benefits such as graduating sooner and faster university acceptance. Braemar has five intake periods per year. (To see more information about starting dates, click here) This means students can begin, or graduate, five times each year. In addition, students requiring less than eight credits can finish sooner than students in regular schools, which usually have only two semesters. Moreover, students can advance up to four levels in a given subject in just one academic year!

THE
SEQUENCE |
|
|
| |
| A. |
The
student is given placement tests in
English and Mathematics. |
| B. |
Based
on these test results, and the post-secondary
intentions of the student, a customized
program of study is devised. The student
is informed about what courses he
or she needs to take in order to qualify
for the college or university programs
they seek to enter; |
| C. |
The
student attends courses and does the
work required. It is difficult to
say how long the program of study
will take to complete, as it depends
on the level and study skills of the
student, and also the work previously
completed in his or her own country
and the applicable post-secondary
academic goals; |
|
D. |
From
time to time guidance meetings are
held to determine if the student is
on course. Post-secondary options
will be discussed in light of the
student?s progress to that point; |
| E. |
Students
may visit the colleges or universities
they wish to attend; tours can easily
be arranged. They may also attend
the presentations that the universities
and colleges make at our college;
|
| F. |
The
student is assisted to apply through
us to universities according to the
deadlines applicable to the programs(s)
applied to for the academic year in
question. Students must fully cooperate
in this process and pay any charges
levied by the institutions to which
they apply; |
| G. |
The
student will receive news of the status
of his or her application(s) from time
to time during the spring months; |
